PALLION
SPACE INVASION
NOVAK were commission as part of the Arts Council and BBC interactive arts initiative The Space. The ‘Pallion‘ commission was shown at ‘Space Invasion’ a public event at The Sage Gateshead on 22nd September 2012 and was shown online at http://thespace.org
Space Invasion is one of the UK’s largest projects for The Space – the experimental £2.5 million digital arts initiative developed by Arts Council England in partnership with the BBC.
Creative agencies Generator and Northern Film & Media joined forces to deliver Space Invasion – a series of experimental music, arts and film collaborations in unusual venues across North East England.
NOVAK worked on ‘Pallion’ with Lanterns on the Lake (signed to legendary label Bella Union). Together they created a unique audio and visual piece using music and video mapping projected directly onto to the decommissioned TSS Manxman ship at the Pallion Shipyard, Sunderland. ‘Pallion’ responds to the location, telling the story of the historic vessel and once thriving shipbuilding yard.
The public event at Sage Gateshead showcased all of the work produced through Space Invasion and featured live performances, including special guest Ghostpoet, Raj Pannu, Lulu James, Jethro Fox and Seye, plus screenings of Space Invasion works.
“In placing NOVAK together with the band, Lanterns on the Lake, we knew that we could create something really special. The ‘Pallion’ piece was truly stunning and NOVAK created a touching visual response to the Pallion shipyard which perfectly complimented the music and challenging surroundings.”
