THE SAVAGE

LIVE THEATRE

The Savage is a stage play adapted by Carnegie Medal-winning author David Almond from his illustrated novel of the same name, directed by Max Roberts and produced by the Live Theatre.

In the play, Blue Baker wants to write a story. After the death of his dad and to escape the unwanted attention of Hopper, the neighbourhood bully, Blue imagines a ‘truely wild’ character – full of anger, adventure and thoughts of revenge. Life is dark and complicated and so is Blue’s story. Helped by his friend Elaine, his mum and baby sister Jess, he tries to discover where life starts and the story ends.

In collaboration with designer, Alison Ashton, NOVAK produced a selection of animated video segments that brought to life the writing and visions of the lead character, Blue.  These projections were woven into the elaborately designed stage set, providing a visually stunning representation of the characters mind.
