The Brief
Visualising a Global Crisis
The challenge was to create an immersive public artwork that would engage audiences with the urgent issue of climate change in an impactful and accessible way. The installation needed to be both visually compelling and emotionally resonant, using dynamic projections and sound to explore the fragile relationship between humanity and the natural world. The brief called for a piece that could translate scientific and environmental themes into an artistic language, fostering reflection and dialogue about the environmental challenges facing our planet.

Our Response
An Evolving Landscape of Light and Sound
NOVAK designed Imminence as a continuously shifting visual and auditory experience, reflecting the ever-changing and unpredictable nature of our climate crisis. The projections, inspired by patterns found in nature and textile design, morphed and transformed across the length of Bloomberg Arcade, creating a living artwork that symbolized the delicate balance of our ecosystems. Hazel Dunn’s textile influences brought an organic texture to the visuals, while Ed Carter’s multi-channel soundscape added an immersive layer of depth, reinforcing the themes of uncertainty, fragility, and transformation. Together, these elements created an artwork that was both beautiful and unsettling—a powerful call to acknowledge and address the realities of climate change. By integrating art, science, and environmental awareness, Imminence offered a compelling and urgent reminder of the impact of human activity on the planet, leaving a lasting impression on all who experienced it.
